Types of Massage offered at Urbanna Therapeutic Massage

Swedish Massage

This is the most common type of massage in the United States. Swedish massage therapy can be gentle and relaxing. This is an excellent choice for one who has never experienced massage before.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower stokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. This massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems or recovery from injury.

Hot Stone Massage

Heated smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy center in the body.
The massage therapist may also hold stones and apply gently pressure with the. The warmth is comforting. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.

Reflexology

Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure and massaging certain points on the foot, hand and spine that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology is extremely relaxing and beneficial on a multitude of levels.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a method of massage especially designed to prepare an athlete for an upcoming event and to aid in the body’s regenerative and restorative capacities. This is achieved through specialized manipulations that stimulate circulation of the blood and lymph.

Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that is applied using very gentle pressure. I use thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue of the body. No force is use, there is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue. Your experience is relaxing, subtle and gentle. I believe that the Bowen Technique prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself.

The Bowen Technique is a very light-touch. The pressure used can be exceptionally light and is quite delicate with extraordinary results. This technique is excellent for clients that need a gentle touch opposed to a normal massage, which may be considered to forceful or aggressive. The tiniest of babies through to the frailest of adults have been treated with Bowen.
